My name, if you don't know already, is Andrew Lyon. I am a student studying at The University of Abertay in Dundee. I have been there for three years and I am now entering my fourth and final year of study to qualify for my BSc(Hons) in Website Design & Development.
I am enjoying my course very much, but as the stereotype goes I am not over-run with money. That's when I had the bright idea of doing this! I have, since the middle of my second year, been selling my services to start-up businesses who wish to expand to the web. I must say it has been hard work getting my name out there, but I have enjoyed learning and the challenges it has presented.
I am always aware of the ever-increasing competition I face and I feel it is important to keep up with, if not stay ahead of, the other websites you might go to when you find your website designer.
Well I looked at a lot of websites and even designed around 8 different sites in the last 2 years to find the right style. I feel I have found it with this website (for the time being). The idea is homage to some of the best websites out there. The design is straight from the keep it simple stupid school of thought, but surely that is what browsing should be anyway.... simple!
I have always wanted to do this job..... ok that's a lie I wanted to be a pilot.... and then a forensic scientist.... but since I turned 16 this is all I have thought about doing, and before going to university I was already producing mid-sized websites.
I first became interested in website design when I learnt HTML at 13 and since then I have just become more and more enthralled by the industry. I feel I bring something fresh to the table, I treat my clients like real people, I don't expect you to know everything about website design the first time I talk to you, just as you wouldn't expect me to know all there is to know about your business.
I enjoy each new project I get, I find it great working with new people all the time and I enjoy the challenges that come with website design and development.
